The Torn World The Harvesting Series Book 5 eBook Melanie Karsak
(RabidReads.com) 4.5/5 stars.I approached the final book in Melanie Karsak’s Harvesting series with some trepidation. I was worried for all the characters because this world that the author created has been so unforgiving to the characters, and we have lost some along the way. She doesn’t shy away from realism while writing characters that are living in the zombie apocalypse, to say the least. I should also mention that zombies aren’t the only creature to be afraid of in this series. That’s because, when most of the population of earth has been decimated, the hidden paranormal creatures were bound to show up, especially when some of them rely on humans in order to live. So yes, this is a very scary picture of what the zombie apocalypse would be like in this situation. But did I love it? Absolutely!Reason number one for loving it? The world building. So fresh and new for this genre, at least I thought it was. I know zombies have been done over and over again, but zombies combined with the other creatures here-not so much. There’s also plenty of magic in this world building, and what’s not to like about that? Well, it depends on if it’s a good guy wielding it or one of the villains. Enough said about that.
Reason number two? The characters. I adored all of them and they were mostly all so fleshed out by now, that I felt I knew them. Layla, the sword expert from the Smithsonian, Cricket, the tilt-a-whirl worker from the carnival, and Amelia the teenage, but powerful witch, all become the main characters this time. Each has their own book or novella prior to this, so the reader is invested in each of them already. There’s also a good group of peripheral characters to love as well. Some are love interests for the main characters, some are there because they have fought brilliantly to stay alive, others are there because they have been protected. And some are there because they are of the supernatural sort, of the good guy kind. Each had their own part to play in this book.
Reason number three? Of course, it’s the writing. I found the author’s premise from the first book onward to be nothing short of interesting, entertaining, and at times heartbreaking. She wove the stories of each of the main characters through each of the books to where they all eventually found each other. I thought it was wonderfully done, and I should emphasize that these can not be read out of order because of the ongoing story arc.
This ended up being one of those series that I am sorry to see end. It just doesn’t seem like we have had enough time with the characters. I could see a followup being done a few years down the road in the characters lives, just to see where everyone is. There is an epilogue and I was extremely happy to get that.
I really enjoyed this series. I would highly recommend it to ages 16 plus, due to extreme violence and occasional mild references to sexual activity. Great read!
FYI-This is book 3 of the series, but there are also two novellas that are just as important to the story, and should be read in order with the books.

The Torn World The Harvesting Series Book 5 eBook Melanie Karsak Reviews
I am so sad to see this series end! I loved the closure that this book brought for some many of the characters. As always the story line did not disappoint. With some twists and turns along the way and an ending that couldnt have been more perfect!
I am truly a picky reader and I will not buy the whole series if it is not a fantastic read. From the first book to the last I could not put it down! As I finished a book I had to go straight to and buy the next book. Wow a top of my list of greatest writers. For me. Please Miz. Karsak write on write on!
This series is the best zombie story ever! I like it better than the Walking Dead and that takes a lot for me to say. It is more hopeful and gas more humor. I also like that it actually explains things.
This has been one of the few series that I would go back and read again & again. I care about these characters. I lived in their world. I could see all the details in my mind. What a thrilling apocalyptic story with just the right touch of everything you crave from a great author. I say put it on the big screen!
Melanie Karsak does a good job pulling together all the different characters in closing out this series. The only reason it isn't a 5-star rating is I felt as though she could have taken more time to get to this point. Amelia, in particular went from knowing little to being an amazing force in this story quickly. I feel as though there could have been another complete book here. I also am not wild about the point of view shifting in this book and the last. Overall, still a very good end.
I am truly sad to see this series end but what an ending it was. I love the way Melanie Karsak finished this book. The writing is, as always, phenomenal. The characters are so well written that you hate to say goodbye. This book is heart wrenching and full of hope at the same time. I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who likes horror and the paranormal. I'm not a big fan of zombies but I loved this series.
The Harvesting is a Trilogy by Melanie Karsak. In computing there are many acronyms. A three letter acronym is called a TLA. Trick question what is a four, or more, letter acronym? An ETLA, extended TLA.
The Harvesting is an E-Trilogy, a five book trilogy. Book one fittingly called "The Harvesting" sets up the premise and a set of characters and does a great job of putting them in a pickle.
Book two, Midway, builds on the same universe with a whole new set of characters and their problems and solutions for the end of civilization and zombies.
Book three "Shadow Aspect" brings these two disparate groups together. Having fought Strigoi, that's Russian for vampires, Layla and her group from The Harvesting are betrayed and rescued. This is a great book on learning to trust and who not to trust. This is the end of the original trilogy but not of the story.
Book four WitchWood brings you a whole new place and new characters in the same universe. Ms. Karsak, the Author, does a superb job of building great new characters and a new location.
Book five "Torn World" , this book, brings the survivors of Shadow Aspect into WitchWood. Pain and loss have brought these two groups together. The enemies are becoming clear and now this group has to work together to find a safe haven. Is WitchWood that haven? The ending is a real twist and a great conclusion to this Extended Trilogy.
