Yellowstone Bear Tales Adventures Mishaps and Discoveries Among the World Most Famous Bears 2 Mr Paul Schullery
It does seem to tell a accurate account of the deplorable history of the Park with the actions taken towards bears, but I couldn't finish reading it. I got about half way through the book and through it in the garbage. I love Yellowstone, and I really love bears. The things that were done to bears just made me sick, and I couldn't read anymore of the book.If you're in to the history of the park I guess the book might be interesting to you, but if you want to read another book about bear as I did forget it.

Yellowstone Bear Tales Adventures Mishaps and Discoveries Among the World Most Famous Bears 2 Mr Paul Schullery Reviews
Paul Schullery's expertise on bears is well-documented in several of his previous books, but in this one he tosses his ursine knowledge into a wonderful saute of stories spiced with between-the-lines portraits of the tale tellers, mostly people of good intentions who knew no better. Read this book and we should all know better.
Bears and Yellowstone seem to belong together. A visit to our first national park is hardly complete without seeing a bear, preferably a bear doing something interesting, something natural, something that takes us into the wild reality of these wonderful animals - and something with a really good story line.
Bears are good at giving us stories, wherever we see them. In the modern park, thanks to healthier management practices, both black and grizzly bears live natural lives without much interference from people. So when we see them, we're seeing truly wild animals - always a thrill, and always something worth talking about.
In the early years of the park, until about the 1960s, people had different sorts of stories to tell. Many of them were especially entertaining because they involved bears interacting with people in ways they don't anymore. Bears guzzling hotel left-overs in the dumps where visitors would gather in the evening to watch the show. Bears standing by the roadside, paws out for goodies. Bears walking into buildings. Bears performing tricks of their own invention. Amusing bears, dangerous bears, tamed bears, famous bears.
The stories collected here include some by well-known figures Theodore Roosevelt, Ernest Thompson, and Owen Wister. But most are told by a broad range of visitors, rangers, park residents, and others who happened to see something remarkable enough to write down. There's the lady who lost her dress to a bear, the bear that stole the mail, the bear in the mess hall, the jewel-thief bear, Barney the cub who everyone loved, and many more. These human-funny tales are balanced by insightful stories from competent naturalists whose main interest was accurate observation of how wild bears behave.
Author Paul Schullery, a long-time resident of Yellowstone, ties this rich collection of bear tales together with concise introductory stories and observations of his own. Start at the beginning, pick it up in the middle, read at random. If you like Yellowstone or bears or both, you'll be trapped by this highly enjoyable book.
It does seem to tell a accurate account of the deplorable history of the Park with the actions taken towards bears, but I couldn't finish reading it. I got about half way through the book and through it in the garbage. I love Yellowstone, and I really love bears. The things that were done to bears just made me sick, and I couldn't read anymore of the book.
If you're in to the history of the park I guess the book might be interesting to you, but if you want to read another book about bear as I did forget it.
